The metrosexual revolution moved men’s vanity from being a dirty little secret to a booming industry. In the United States alone it is projected that men will spend $38 billion on their appearance this year, making them the fastest growing target market in the fashion and grooming industries. Because the face is the first thing that people look at, skincare is the fastest growing segment of the male grooming industry.

www.astonmitchell.com was set up in October 2008 and was born out of a desire to work in the burgeoning male cosmetics market, which was getting lots of media attention following the launch of manscara and guyliner.  We felt that we could offer a service to men which was both discreet and helpful, and which offered a wide selection of products from the best suppliers across the globe. We’re now working with Trampas, the experts in helping men to look their best, to offer a range of men’s grooming and makeup products and lessons, to leave you looking polished to perfection.

We have two very different types of product to suit two very different types of customer.

1. Discreet, natural looking products which help to conceal, disguise and perfect without anyone knowing. The discreet products would include concealer, antishine, bronzer, lip balm and maybe foundation.

2. Very obvious makeup for guys who want to look gorgeous and don’t care who knows! The second category includes eyeliner, mascara, tinted lip balm and even blusher and eyeshadow but the market in the UK is not quite ready for that yet.

One fabulous men’s makeup and skincare range is Menaji from the United States, which is a big seller and is designed by Michele Probst, who is one of the US President’s makeup artists. She uses the Menaji range on him and he loves it – quite a recommendation. Another great men’s makeup range is the Fontana Contarini range which is much more about makeup and less about skincare – mascara, eyeliner, bronzing powder, foundation but it’s really top quality and the foundation and bronzer look really natural – just giving a healthy glow and the impression that you have nice skin!

Don’t be shy – men’s makeup is the next BIG thing, you heard it from us first!

There was once a time, not that long ago, when boys were boys and men were men. Typical of this era was the notion that personal grooming was the preserve of females, whose looks virtually defined their entire existence. Nowadays, for better or worse, there is considerable pressure on men to look good - and this means that a keen fashion sense, good physical fitness and regular personal grooming are absolute essentials.

Indeed, no longer are magazines filled only with images of and information about the female form - men have a far more prominent role in today`s aesthetic world. From notable well-groomed superstars such as David Beckham and Christian Bale, modern man has plenty of reference points when it comes to how he should look, although let`s put to one side the fact that Hollywood level grooming involves teams of personal stylists, hairdressers and makeup artists! The main point, of course, is that women now expect a certain high standard from men that can only be maintained through regular personal grooming.

Hair is a dominant feature of any person - a simple change of hairstyle can completely transform the way a person looks. This also means that unkempt or damaged hair can negatively impact on a man`s appearance. Indeed, even a hairstyle that is intentionally messy has to be carefully shaped by a professional and then maintained daily using specific waxes. For men with predominantly grey hair, sometimes the best solution is to shave it all off - certainly, this is easier to maintain in the long run and after the initial shock men will find it a carefree look that is both manly and neat.

Facial hair is another aspect of a man`s appearance that needs careful attention. If the beard is thick and coarse, it is advisable to wet shave first thing every morning using a razor blade (brand name shavers usually comprise guards over double or triple blades), gel or foam and warm water. Using cold water closes the skin`s pores and can make it more sensitive to cuts and irritation. If using an electric shaver, make sure that stubborn hairs are removed - these usually hide just under the chin or jawline. However, grooming does not necessarily mean that facial hair must go. Indeed, a certain amount of stubble can be maintained for that rugged look, whilst a moustache or goatie can also look good.

Men are also required to cut their fingernails and toenails regularly, perhaps two or three times a week depending on how quickly they grow. Long fingernails on a man can appear effeminate and can also harbour bacteria. Modern man should also invest in a facial wash, preferably one that scrubs deep into the pores, in order to remove dirt embedded in the skin and thus reduce the incidence of spots and blackheads.

Finally, men need to show off their personal grooming by showing a little fashion sense. http://www.hardcloud.com/brands/volcom.asp , for instance, offers a wide range of quality menswear that will do just the job. From summer trench coats to shirts and shorts, Volcom uk has it all.
